Scorpios and Shadow Work

My walk in the forest.

One thing I’ve discovered throughout the years is that I have a knack for revealing people’s shadow sides, almost effortlessly. As I continue to learn and grow, I realize this is my Scorpio nature in action. It happens so naturally that I often don’t even realize I’m doing it. Sometimes this leads to people getting angry or disappearing from my life. Some find it unsettling, while others are incredibly grateful.

Scorpios have a natural inclination for exploring the depths of human emotions, making them highly perceptive and intuitive. Known for their intensity and transformative nature, Scorpios are perfectly aligned with the work of exploring shadows. Shadow work involves facing and integrating the hidden or repressed parts of ourselves, often revealing deep-seated fears, desires, and emotions that influence us more than we realize.

So why do some people get mad at me or cut ties? I’ve come to understand that those who push back are simply not ready to face their own shadows. Doing so requires confronting deeply ingrained aspects of the self, often rooted in early sensory and emotional experiences. From birth, our ego is shaped by the way we interact with the world, forming our conscious identity while burying unwanted traits and experiences deep in the unconscious. Shadow work requires revisiting and reintegrating these hidden parts—an uncomfortable, yet profoundly healing process. Facing these truths can stir fears, insecurities, and traumas the ego has long avoided. Many people resist this level of inner work, preferring to maintain their current identity rather than risk dismantling it.

In some cases, I don’t think people even realize what’s happening. Instead, they take those uncomfortable feelings and project them onto me. Their ego shouts, “She makes me mad. She’s this. She’s that. How dare she.” They believe it’s just a thought, but in reality, it’s their ego resisting the unveiling of their shadow.

Let me share an example. I once met someone I found fascinating, everything about them seemed flawless. But something didn’t add up. My intuition nagged at me: This person is hiding something. At first, I questioned myself—was I just being nosy? Or was I sensing the shadow beneath the surface? Eventually, I began gently calling them out. At first, they denied everything, but cracks began to show. One revelation led to another, like a slow cascade of dominoes. This person looked at me as if to say, “What are you doing to me?” But all I was doing was asking questions. “What makes you do that? When did it start? How did you feel when that person hurt you?” To some, that might sound intrusive, but for me, it’s genuine curiosity and deep listening. For a Scorpio, curiosity and intuition often blur together—it’s not about prying, it’s about uncovering truth.

Over time, more of this person’s shadow came to the surface. They are now in counseling and working through their issues, though they still waver between acceptance and resistance. It’s a dance between the Third Dimension and the Fourth, between ego and higher awareness. (My dear friend and teacher, Theresa Martel, explains these dimensions beautifully in her forthcoming book in the chapter Multi-Dimensional Realities.)

As a mysterious and intuitive Scorpio, I’ve come to accept that I naturally possess the ability to reveal shadow aspects in others. This isn’t something I consciously try to do—it simply happens through my presence and energy. While reactions vary from gratitude to resistance, my Scorpio traits make me a catalyst for transformation, encouraging others to confront what they’ve hidden.

If you meet me, please know I won’t intentionally draw out your shadow side. I can honestly be oblivious at times. And if it does happen, and you find yourself upset with me, know that it’s never my intention, it’s simply part of the energy I carry.

During Scorpio season, the energy around us amplifies this process. Scorpio’s association with transformation, death, and rebirth creates powerful opportunities for shadow work and healing. Here are some insights and practices for engaging in shadow work with Scorpio energy:

Understanding Shadow Work

Shadow work, a concept introduced by Carl Jung, is the practice of acknowledging and integrating the parts of ourselves we typically hide or reject. These can include past traumas, negative emotions, or undesirable traits. The goal is not to eliminate them but to bring them into the light, allowing for healing and self-acceptance.

Scorpio’s Role

Scorpio’s influence emphasizes power, mystery, and transformation. This energy invites us to dive deep into the subconscious, confront hidden aspects, and embrace personal transformation. Scorpio reminds us that facing the dark ultimately makes us stronger and more whole.

New Moon in Scorpio Ritual

The New Moon in Scorpio is a particularly potent time for shadow work. Light a black candle for protection, meditate to invite your shadow self forward, and try automatic writing to capture insights. This creates a safe container for acknowledging and processing buried emotions.

Daily Practices

Meditation and journaling are essential for ongoing shadow work. Observing your reactions throughout the day can uncover hidden triggers and patterns. Visualization techniques, such as surrounding yourself with light, can offer protection and support as you explore deeper emotions.

Affirmations and Reflections

Affirmations can be powerful tools. For Scorpio season, try:

“The darkness doesn’t hide answers from me.”

“I embrace every part of myself with compassion.”

“Diving deeper gives me the tools to rise higher.”

Repeating affirmations helps you embrace the shadow without judgment and integrate it into your wholeness.

Engaging in shadow work during Scorpio season may be intense, but it is also deeply rewarding. Scorpio’s transformative energy guides us through ego death and rebirth, offering a path to greater awareness and balance. By embracing the shadow, we unlock our potential to live more authentically, powerfully, and at peace with ourselves.
